Effective Altruism: Doing the Most Good for All Sentient Beings

Effective Altruism is a philosophically-driven social movement that promotes using the resources we have available to maximize good. If we understand value in terms of desirable states of consciousness, it is clear that this is not limited to human beings. Professor Singer will discuss some of the issues that arise in putting this approach into action.

Peter Singer is one of the most influential figures in contemporary ethics and the founder of the Effective Altruism movement. A professor of bioethics at Princeton University, Singer has written extensively on the moral obligations we have to use our resources to maximize the well-being of all sentient beings, not just humans. His work challenges us to reconsider the way we think about charity, global poverty, animal rights, and ethical decision-making.

EDIT:

The event is being organized by the Center for Environmental and Technology Ethics.

The event is jointly organized with Sekyra Foundation and the Centre for Philosophy, Ethics, and Religion at the Charles University as part of the Czech European Researchers‘ Night.  https://cetep.eu/peter-singer/
